Having just returned from New York, bagels seem to now come with a memory of filtered coffee, long hours of walking around in the rain (by golly it rained) and staying out nearly all day to get the most of our New York Pass. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity to try out a new bagel joint in Hawthorn.
It’s pretty busy on a weekday – and as anyone who has ever been to Glenferrie Rd would know, the traffic around that corner is awful but the bagels were worth the journey.
Our meal started off with the bagelicious frappe and a Wooldorf juice with apple, celery, pineapple and cucumber. Nice and refreshing – taste wise I can never resist a banana based smoothie especially when it comes with berries and mango…
The pea soup was great (it changes every day though so ask and see what you’ll get)- I guess at a bagel joint we shouldn’t be too surprised that the bagels were the star but those bagel croutons were amazing. Crisp and light.
Our bagels wise, we chose the chicken mexican with a blueberry bagel (yes… we just can’t go past blueberry bagels enough to choose a more savoury kind) and the bacon and egg bagel with the lot (poppy seeds, sesame and ?dill).
Yum. Two very satisfied customers – a big thank you to Yonathon for making us feel so welcome. I guess I have another bagel joint to add to my rather short list (Huff Bagelry comes to mind with lovely memories).
