It’s not a very catchy name! Locals might remember this place as the cafe that was Harold Holt but it’s worthwhile remembering Beyond Basic because it’s a great cafe. We went with our dogs and they had a lovely time too – the place is exquisitely dog friendly which is probably a huge plus in a dog crazy suburb. The front few tables are undercover and have places to attach dog leashes to, there are dog bowls and the staff didn’t mind my dogs at all (they were extra excited and the small one yapped…)
Here’s Angel enjoying the view which I should have taken a photo of – she loves the beach. And digging. Holes. In the sand. And our backyard when she gets bored too actually.
I had the steak sanga which comes with corn salsa and hand cut chips. I’m really impressed this dish is priced at $15.50. The chips were a bit cold by the time they got served but oh well~ There was enough steak here that the dogs got some too afterwards…
My friend had the bruschetta which comes with mushrooms, asparagus, tomatoes – looks like their equivalent of a big breakfast really. Love the presentation.
Pancakes were also on the menu – looks a treat. I think next time I’ll try them out with some coffee – it seems like a lot of coffee connoisseurs frequent this place (I should have guessed from their name but I was told it was the “place that used to be Harold Holt”.
My friend is lucky to have this place so close to hers – I do have a sneaky suspicion Port Melbourne has a lot more dog-friendly cafes than other places though:) Can’t wait for another outing here.
