I Spicy Thai Restaurant for Dinner in Hawthorn

Recent comments on urbanspoon seem to suggest i Spicy’s serving size has decreased.  I think it was my second time here – I remember having trouble finding it since it’s located in the same building as Safeway (hence parking is remarkably easy to find).  If you’re looking for a place to sit for ages and relax then possibly try out the Richmond location.  I’m glad to say we didn’t find the dishes small at all.  In fact I think we ordered enough for four people rather than three.

Does anyone else get into the habit of ordering similar things at different restaurants? For me it’s pad thai and papaya salad.  This papaya salad really did pack a punch with its chili kick. In fact I found myself eating it with the rice and pad thai to help me cope with the heat.

The pad thai was huge.  I guess we had also ordered fish cakes and fried chinese broccoli and crispy pork.  Their vegetables were pretty fresh and the broccoli (gai lan) was great.

I really liked the fish cakes which were nice and springy.

We ended up spending a lot of time at this small shop but luckily most of their other patrons seem to come for take away and there was a steady stream of customers.  I’m sure I Spicy is a local favourite for a good reason.
