I’ve always felt that there isn’t much point in trying other Japanese restaurants in Glen Waverley because Shiranui is there – but lately I’ve just been too many times.
Kazoo Japanese Restaurant and Bar just opened mid July and replaced Circuz – the location of the restaurant (the address is Coleman Parade) is fantastic as it overlooks Springvale Road. The decor hasn’t changed much since the change of business – it still looks inviting and ready to host a large number of dinner guests.
For lunch, they offer a list of bentos including unagi (eel) and soft shelled crab. Each bento comes with a few pieces of sushi, miso soup, rice, seaweed and vegetables.
We chose the unagi bento ($14.5, will there be a visit to a Japanese restaurant where we will not choose this?) – the unagi was fantastic and the vegetables consisted of mixed salad with a light teriyaki flavoured salad dressing (either that or the unagi sauce went onto the vegetables!). The sushi was raw salmon and avocado – a welcome change to other restaurants where the accompanying maki only has cucumber or avocado etc.
We also had deep fried king prawns with mango mayonnaise – a crisp exterior and fresh prawns covered with a mayonnaise with a subtle mango flavour. My lunch companion felt the mayo could have had a bigger kick but I enjoyed the subtle flavours.
Overall a great meal. There were a lot of items on their menu – can’t wait to go back with a group to try them out.
