Guess what happens when you delay writing a post? I visited Piatella Cafe Bar a subsequent two more times after the initial lunch. Once more for lunch again (yes, it is recommended to try Piatella if you haven’t done so already) and another time for dessert.
Lunch has been great at Piatella – I’m always just a little nervous we’ll have to wait for seats since it always seems so busy. In terms of decor, Piatella is actually quite lovely – open with wooden benches, walls and a lovely gelati stand in the front.
For the first lunch, I had the semolina gnocchi which was very generously portioned (in fact I could have happily finished half off and been content). The flavours all really went well together with a parsnip cream topped with a balsamic glaze. The gnocchi was exactly as I like it – soft and not at all chewy.
My friends had the breakfast smash – two poached eggs, smoked salmon on top of avocado on toast. A lovely combination of flavours and as expected the eggs were the lovely flowing type.
The Atlantic salmon on both occasions seemed to be rather popular. It was done medium on top of a bed of salad made up of rocket, asparagus and dressed with an orange vinaigrette.
Unfortunately I had an incident of photography failure – my lovely beef burger with chunky chips. Next time, I’d give the chips a miss (how refreshing this is an option actually!). The beef burger on the other hand had a lovely tangy tomato relish and had all the elements I typically look for in a burger – beetroot, tomato, caramelised onion and a juicy beef patty.
The other time we went to Piatella was for dessert. When I say dessert, actually only one of my friends ordered from the rather tempting front counter – a hazelnut mousse “cake” (I can’t remember exactly what it was called) – it was light and not overly sweet. My other friend and I tried their ice cream – I was pleasantly surprised by their green tea (this is a western place after all) – refreshing with adequate green tea flavour and without being overly sweet. Lovely. I actually liked it better than what is usually my favourite – black sesame ice cream.
So that’s what happens when it takes nearly a month to finish this post about Piatella – I better finish this before I go again!
