So Kingsway has become truly the eating strip of Glen Waverley and now we have a new addition – Taiwan Cafe. My friend had been rather excited hearing there was a new Taiwanese restaurant in town but this quickly dissipated when she realised it was Taiwan Cafe because there are branches in the city she’s already tried before.
It’s busy. Very busy (though somehow I managed to snap empty chairs – I didn’t feel quite right taking photos of their customers eating…). The table next to us was chatting about how it’s hard to get a seat at night and you need to go ridiculously early for dinner. We went midday on a weekday so we didn’t have that trouble.
With just the two of us it’s hard to judge the restaurant but we did order their signature dish (or so it said on their menu) the pan fried pork dumplings. Whilst they were freshly fried and came in a timely fashion, they weren’t all that exciting. The meat was just a little bit on the hard side. I can’t help but mention shandong mama when I talk about dumplings… Such a shame it’s so far!
We also ordered the pork noodle soup – nice but again, nothing out of the ordinary. With eating it the soup became more oily because of the mince but I think that happens with this dish all the time.
I might need to go back to try out a few of their other items but so far, Taiwan cafe hasn’t made me excited to return. Might go to Taipei Delight instead.
