We chose to finally try out Union Dining for dinner after attending the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. Our experience here really finished off the day quite well because of their special of suckling pork.
We did order other things such as mussels (we go everywhere and can’t help ourselves really). Whilst nice, it wasn’t as good as the ones we had recently had at Bistro Guillaume. It had crunchy tid bits adding texture and some clams too.
Thinking the special was enough to feed two (or three of us after our multiple coffees that day), we ordered two sides – the brocolli and autumn veggies. I liked the broccoli more.
Then the masterpiece for the day. The suckling pork with crackling. The crackling was perfect. Light, crisp. Everything Heston talked about in his explanation. The pork was great too being tender and succulent. I really hope this is a special of theirs that comes around often because I’d like to have it again next time! Looking at their menu, I think we chose this over our all-time favourite – duck leg!
Notice we didn’t have dessert? Too full from pork. A pleasant feeling.
So yes, I will be recommending Union Dining and yes, I hope I’ll come back – I’ll have to call and ask about when they think they’ll have suckling pork on the specials board again.
